ARRT may ease rules on reinstatement

The board of the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) of St. Paul, MN, has suggested easing requirements for reinstating registered technologists after five years.

The proposed policy, which could become effective as early as January 1, 2011, would enable technologists to reinstate by demonstrating compliance with ARRT's standards of ethics and passing the ARRT examination for the disciplines in which they seek reinstatement. Technologists would no longer need to once again complete an educational program, unless they were unable to pass the exam in three attempts within three years.

That change would streamline the process for those who have been out of continuing education compliance for more than six months. ARRT will publish the proposal this spring in the 2010 annual report to registered technologists, and the ARRT board will make its final decision in August.
