GE signs deal with Surgi-Vision

GE Medical Systems has announced a marketing and distribution agreement with specialized MRI coil developer Surgi-Vision, which develops coils used to take images from inside the body. Waukesha, WI-based GE has obtained exclusive rights to use Surgi-Vision's new coil for imaging the esophagus and aorta. GE will employ the coil with its Signa CV/i MR scanner, which is targeted for imaging of the heart and blood vessels. With the new coil, doctors will now be able to explore intravascular plaque in a non-invasive procedure, according to Dennis Cooke, global general manager of GE's MRI business.

Surgi-Vision received Food and Drug Administration 510(k) clearance for the coil in September 1999. Future products from Surgi-Vision will provide high-resolution images of the heart, urethra, and prostate, according to the Columbia, MD-based firm.
