Partners Community Healthcare is well on its way to achieving the ambitious goal of having all its physicians connected to an electronic medical record (EMR) system by 2009. The healthcare system, which includes Boston's Massachusetts General Hospital and Brigham and Women's Hospital, first initiated the EMR adoption plan in 2002 and soon expects 100% adoption. Partners information technology executives recently detailed how the system brought community physicians on board with adopting EMRs.

Computer-aided detection (CAD) for breast imaging has generated controversy of late, with dueling studies producing different results regarding its accuracy. Now researchers have found that CAD can improve radiologists' accuracy in classifying clustered microcalcifications on serial mammograms, and reduce the biopsy rate when used as a second opinion in diagnostic breast ultrasound.
