eSys Medical

Radiology information systems developer eSys Medical of Toronto will premiere RadioLogic 5.2, a new version of its flagship Web-based RIS, at this year's RSNA conference. The firm is in acquisition negotiations with Boca Raton, FL-based healthcare information systems developer Eclipsys.

Built using Sun Microsystems' Java J2EE development platform, with enhanced clustering and proprietary caching technologies, RadioLogic RIS is scalable, from standalone imaging centers to multisite teaching hospitals, and supports multiple time zones and languages, the company said.

New in version 5.2 is the Enterprise/Worklist Snapshots Subscription Service, a Web-based service that allows users to subscribe to e-mail notifications when there are certain changes to their worklists. The service automatically alerts administrators when service levels, wait times, or staff work backlogs are outside of acceptable parameters.

With 5.2, eSys now offers a sophisticated U.S. billing module, including online insurance eligibility verification, and electronic insurance submissions and reconciliation. A new version of the RadioLogic Speech Recognition Module is also built into version 5.2, developed with the latest version of Dictaphone's PowerScribe software development kit.

Other new features in RadioLogic 5.2 include ReportFetcher, which automates the distribution of diagnostic reports to remote physicians' EMR systems; teaching archives; integration with PACS products from Sectra of Linköping, Sweden and GE Healthcare of Waukesha, WI; improved/faster workflow for order entry and patient arrivals; Web-based administrative report authoring; and the capability for users to subscribe to scheduled administrative reports.
