DALLAS - Information storage and retrieval developer Breece Hill of Louisville, CO, has released its latest optical drives, the MaxOptix T7 and T8, at the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) annual conference.
Both products are targeted at small-to-medium businesses and workgroups. The T8 is based on blue-violet laser technologies, with a 23.3-GB capacity and a maximum transmission rate of 11 MB per second. The T8’s capacity is achieved by shortening the wavelength of laser light, from red to violet, thereby producing a smaller beam spot. A smaller beam spot enables a density 2.6 times greater than conventional magneto-optical (MO) drives, according to the firm.
The T7 provides a capacity of 9.1 GB while increasing transmission speed by 15% over earlier generations of the drive, Breece Hill said. The T8 is scheduled to list for $2,650; the T7 will be offered at $1,840.
