MINNEAPOLIS - How will the imaging community respond to the challenge of quantitative imaging for treatment response? That was the question that multiple speakers set out to answer in a symposium at last week's American Association of Physicists in Medicine (AAPM) meeting. MRI, PET, and SPECT are all being thoroughly scrutinized in order to meet the increasing demand for noninvasive imaging biomarkers that can not only customize treatment, but also track treatment response.

BERLIN - After two and a half years of sweating the details, a team led by researchers from the University of Southern California in Los Angeles say they have developed an easy method that PACS users can employ to incorporate CAD into their viewing workstations -- independent of the vendor they're using. Automated analysis tools vary in pulmonary nodule measurements

Different automated analysis tools vary in determining the size of pulmonary nodules, according to a multi-institutional research group. With data from a lung nodule detection study, the researchers used commercially available automated analysis packages to quantify the variations in nodule maximum diameter and volume among the different software tools. They found maximum dimension is an unreliable marker of tumor size, even when using automated analysis software.
