VR startup wins funding for remote medical communication

Publishing company Par said it has invested in Immertec, a virtual reality (VR) startup that applies VR technology to medical communications and surgical training.

The flagship product by Immertec, Medoptic, enables multiple clinicians to communicate from remote locations in real-time by wearing a VR headset. The product can be used to facilitate medical training, collaborations between surgeons and radiologists during image-guided procedures, and consults among physicians across the globe, according to the company.

Immertec previously launched a pilot program in which 3,000 physicians tested Medoptic in various clinical settings.
