Dear Advanced Visualization Insider,
Virtual reality shows much potential in the future of medical imaging, and researchers at Japan's Institute of High Dimensional Medical Imaging at Jikei University School of Medicine are among those working to turn that promise into a clinical reality.
The Tokyo-based institute has invested in a range of medical virtual reality projects including virtual surgery, 4D imaging applications, telemedicine, and 3D databases, according to Dr. Naoki Suzuki. He discussed the institute's research and the future role of virtual reality in medical imaging during a seminar at the 2006 Computer Assisted Radiology and Surgery (CARS) meeting.
Staff writer Eric Barnes reports on Suzuki's presentation and the challenges facing the technology in the third and final installment of a series on 3D and virtual reality.
