Analogic, IMS form FFDM alliance

Peabody, MA-based imaging equipment vendor Analogic has joined forces with Internazionale Medico Scientifica (IMS) of Bologna, Italy in a five-year strategic alliance for the exchange of mammography product and technology information. The firms will be focusing on IMS’ full-field digital mammography (FFDM) system, Giotto Image MD.

The unit recently completed a clinical trial of over 300 patients in the breast care department at Maggiore Hospital in Bologna, Italy, using detectors designed and manufactured by Analogic’s Anrad subsidiary.

Under a separate agreement, Quebec-based Anrad will supply amorphous selenium-based flat-panel detectors to IMS. IMS is preparing to forward full premarket approval (PMA) documentation on Giotto Image MD to the Food and Drug Administration by January 31, 2003, according to the developer.
