Philips adds to cardiology line

Philips Medical Systems formally added a number of new technologies to its cardiology portfolio at this week’s annual American Heart Association (AHA) meeting in Orlando.

In ultrasound, Philips showed the latest upgrade to its EnVisor C cardiovascular ultrasound system, which features QuickScan intelligent workflow features, Omni III TEE transducer, expanded CV analysis, and contrast imaging, according to the vendor.

In cardiac CT developments, Philips demonstrated its Rate Responsive system, which adapts to the patient’s heart rate using Philips algorithms. The scanner acquires data at the optimal time, when the heart is most at rest, according to Philips. Clinicians can select pre-programmed procedures, scanning protocols, reconstruction perimeters, archiving destination, and image processing functions, Philips said.

Philips also highlighted ENsphere, a workflow management offering for nuclear management departments, and 4DM SPECT software. Running on Philips’ Pegasys workstation, 4DM SPECT is an automated cardiac review and quantification application suite.

The company has announced the release of a new educational CD-ROM for cardiovascular MR practitioners as well. The Anatomical Atlas of Cardiac MRI, authored by Professor Mohan Sivananthan of The General Infirmary, Leeds, UK, et al, and published by Andromeda Interactive, is the first in a series of educational resources and will focus on normal cardiac anatomy and cross-sectional MR anatomy, Philips said.
