Two new studies evaluated three different MR contrast agents for brain and spinal imaging. In the first study, a multi-institutional group compared two gadolinium-based contrast agents for the enhancement of central nervous system (CNS) lesions. In the second, researchers tested a half-life gadolinium-based contrast agent in functional MRI (fMRI).

Stress MPI with Tc-99m SPECT identifies high-risk obese patients

Identifying an accurate method for risk stratification of obese patients with coronary artery disease is critically important to limit invasive procedures for high-risk patients, according to researchers from the U.S. and the Netherlands. They found that stress myocardial perfusion imaging (MPI) with Tc-99m tetrofosmin is a valuable, noninvasive tool for predicting mortality and cardiac events in obese patients.

While legal standards for MRI safety may still be in their formative stages in Canada, they are currently far ahead of those in the U.S., according to MRI architectural consultant Tobias Gilk.
