RIS/PACS reduces x-ray exam time

Using a RIS/PACS network in a radiology department can substantially reduce x-ray exam completion times, according to a study by Italian researchers. The research team collected data from two hospitals -- one used a traditional workflow model and the other used a RIS/PACS network -- and calculated aggregate exam time, from patient registration to delivery of results to the patient.

64-slice CTA handles fast hearts

CT angiography (CTA) images are clear and readable at various heart rates on 64-detector CT, according to a new study by researchers from Switzerland. But while overall heart rates made little difference for visualizing the coronary arteries, heart rhythm mattered far more. Beta-blockers reduced artifacts across the board, but were more useful for taming irregular heart rhythms than for slowing heart rates, the group noted.
