MRI becoming more efficient in breast cancer detection

As breast cancer continues as a major health concern for women, MRI is playing an increasingly important role in detecting the disease in certain subgroups. Two recent studies focused on breast MRI, with the first examining whether accurate assessment of breast vascularity can help increase specificity for breast MRI. The other sought to determine how often incidental lesions are detected by MR, how they can be characterized, and what is the proper management of the lesions.

UFE without standard aortography cuts radiation dose

Because some women undergoing uterine fibroid embolization (UFE) may also require ovarian artery embolization (OAE), aortography is routinely performed to assess ovarian arterial supply. But eliminating this step, especially because less than 1% of UFE patients have significant collateral artery supply, could cut procedure-related radiation dose by 20%, according to a Washington, DC-based group.
