MR parameters divulge depth of acute hamstring injuries

Professional athletes and dancers are as familiar with hamstring strains as they are with the bench press and barre, respectively. Two studies affirmed MR's major role in defining these injuries. Australian and British researchers used the modality on football players for reinjury risk stratification, while Swedish sports medicine specialists looked at hamstring strains in dancers during slow-speed stretching. While the MR results didn't hold all the answers, the imaging exam was still worth performing, according to the experts.

Dedicated breast CT scanners aren't on the market yet, or even close to market, truth be told. But breast CT happens every day -- with every chest and cardiac CT exam -- and it's the radiologist's job to read the scan for the frequent incidental findings it can yield. CT can even be used to guide breast intervention in some cases, according to Dr. Jeffrey Mendel of Caritas St. Elizabeth's Medical Center in Boston.
