Mirabel Medical, formerly known as TranScan, plans to show a new version of its electrical impedance scanning device, T-Scan 2000ED, which is designed to serve as an adjunct to clinical breast exam (CBE). Mirabel first introduced its imaging technology in 1999 when it launched its FDA-cleared T-Scan 2000 as an adjunct to mammography.

Siemens Medical Solutions plans to feature Novation DR, its full-field digital mammography (FFDM) system. The Malvern, PA-based company received FDA clearance for the device in August, and expects to have 25 installed by the end of 2004.

Sectra of Linköping, Sweden, will present its Sectra MicroDose Mammography full-field digital system, designed for high-volume screening environments. The system's detector absorbs almost 100% of the x-ray photons that strike it, which results in much lower radiation dose, according to the company.

R2 Technology of Sunnyvale, CA, will introduce a new addition to its ImageChecker CAD family, as well as new software for ImageChecker DM, which can be used with either film-based analog mammography units or full-field digital systems. The company will also display ImageChecker LX and DX, systems designed for mammography centers with low to moderate volumes.

At the RSNA show, Planmed will highlight two mammography systems: Planmed Nuance Classic and the work-in-progress Planmed Nuance FFDM. Nuance Classic is an analog system that can be upgraded to full-field digital, while Nuance FFDM has the option to add a computer-aided detection capability.

Multimodality vendor Philips Medical Systems of Andover, MA, is planning to enter the market for full-field digital mammography (FFDM) systems with MammoDiagnost MD, a flat-panel digital mammography system. Philips says the system will be a direct digital unit with a pixel size of 50 microns in screening mode and 25 microns in diagnostic mode.
