Butterfly Network is entering a long-term alliance with the Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine (VCOM) to establish the college as a center for ultrasound education and community care, with a focus on rural settings.
Beginning with its 2026 incoming class, VCOM plans to give every first-year student a Butterfly iQ3 handheld ultrasound device to use throughout training and into practice. Butterfly is also offering discounted Butterfly iQ+ devices for VCOM’s remaining students, including graduating fourth-year students.
Graduates can continue in the Lighthouse Program, which uses Butterfly’s cloud software to support continuing education and remote peer collaboration and to collect longitudinal data on point-of-care ultrasound use in clinical practice, Butterfly said. VCOM graduates about 660 osteopathic physicians annually, most of whom practice in rural and medically underserved communities, the companies said.
