Multiple factors are known to cause variations in SUV, including uptake period, body weight, and reconstruction method. But researchers at the University of Maryland School of Medicine in Baltimore have found that SUVs can vary in PET systems manufactured by different vendors.

PET changes oncology management, study shows

A multisite study in Australia has found that PET results can change treatment plans for cancer patients, as the modality provides more information on the extent, recurrence, and progression of the disease. The Australian PET Data Collection Project has collected data on whether the modality changed the management of patients with different types of cancer, such as ovarian cancer, metastatic melanoma, and colorectral cancer.
