Canada gets first Biograph One PET/MRI scanner

The Lawson Research Institute in London, Ontario, has installed the first Siemens Healthineers Biograph One PET/MRI scanner in Canada, according to the firm.

The $8-million system combines PET and MRI into a single unit, enabling simultaneous imaging of organ and tissue structure alongside cellular metabolic activity, the institute noted. Researchers plan to use the scanner to study cancer, stroke, neurological disorders, chronic pain conditions, and mental health conditions including depression and bipolar disorder.

Studies will be led by Jean Théberge, PhD, director of Lawson’s Biomedical Imaging Research Center.
