MR angiography offers greater detail in vascular imaging

Correlation was the name of the game in two MR angiography (MRA) studies. A group from New York City looked at whether contrast flow measurements coincided with the severity of peripheral vascular disease (PVD). Meanwhile, Italian radiologists studied whether MR plaque enhancement was in sync with the degree of stenosis in the carotid artery.

As of this 2004/05 census of hospitals with 150+ beds performing angiography procedures at 1,630 sites, the hospitals with 400+ beds tend to have larger catheter/stent budgets than the other site types, with 63% of hospitals with 400+ beds having budgets over $600,000 for 2004, compared to 21% of hospitals with 200-399 beds and 0% of hospitals with 150-199 beds.
