GE Medical Systems Lunar has released a new bone densitometry system, Lunar DPX Duo. According to Lunar, the unit doubles as an examination table and bone density system, permitting its use as an exam table when not in operation as a densitometer.
The system features automated patient scanning with the company’s SmartScan software, which automatically adjusts the scan path during the examination. It also automatically combines scans of the spine and hip into one exam, allowing both scans to be acquired in one process and evaluated in one analysis.
The system has an optional DualFemur feature that automatically measures both the left and right femurs in one scan and then identifies the femur with the lowest density. Reporting capabilities display T scores along with fracture risk assessment graphs based on the World Health Organization criteria for diagnosing osteoporosis, according to the manufacturer.
