Authors offer remedies for artifacts on MDCT coronary angio
By
Tracie L. Thompson
Multidetector CT offers many advantages over single-slice scanning, especially in noninvasive CT angiography. But artifacts can still mar MDCT images of the coronary arteries, especially if your scanner has only four detector rows.

By
Jonathan S. Batchelor
"One size fits all" may be words to live by when purchasing a knit ski cap, but the adage does not hold true in PET/CT scanning. It is the application that should determine the CT configuration in combined systems, according to PET expert Dr. Homer Macapinlac.

Phase-related IV contrast automates mass detection in virtual colonoscopy
By
Eric Barnes
A study at the 2004 European Congress of Radiology in Vienna aimed to make better use of contrast-enhanced image data by measuring Hounsfield Unit (HU) values in polyps, carcinoma, and the bowel wall. Farewell to fusion: Contrast MRI edges CT in postbrachytherapy exams
By
Eric Barnes
CT/MRI fusion is a waste of time for postbrachytherapy imaging of the prostate, say researchers from Boston and Vienna. Not only does contrast-enhanced MRI detect seeds nearly as well as CT, they say, but MRI’s superior soft-tissue contrast properties often make it the only way to tell whether seeds have migrated outside the organ.

DWI proves best of seven in subacute stroke imaging
By
Tracie L. Thompson
An intriguing new study from Stanford University pitted seven common diagnostic exams against each other to determine which test had the greatest impact on the management of subacute stroke patients. Diffusion-weighted MRI won out against a host of multimodality contenders in CT, ultrasound, and conventional MRI.
