Toshiba America Medical Systems has launched a new program to partner with luminary centers in support of disease-specific research, the Tustin, CA, vendor said. The first partnership to be set up under the program is a stroke research center at the State University of New York (SUNY) in Buffalo.
Under the program, Toshiba will provide clinical and technical expertise, as well as funding, for disease-focused projects in cardiology, neuroradiology, oncology, and peripheral vascular disease. The company hopes that participating researchers will find new ways to treat disease, according to John Zimmer, vice president of marketing at Toshiba.
The Toshiba Stroke Research Center at SUNY Buffalo will develop minimally invasive techniques to halt or reverse acute strokes. Led by Dr. L.N. Hopkins, the investigators are using Toshiba angiography systems to conduct minimally invasive procedures to dissolve stroke-causing clots or repair them with stents.
