Siemens Medical Solutions of Malvern, PA, will display Novation, its work-in-progress FFDM system.

Siemens Wom Based on Siemens’ Mammomat 3000 Nova, Novation includes a 25 cm x 29 cm flat-panel, amorphous selenium digital detector. The company submitted a pre-market approval application for the unit in April.

Novation is being used in a clinical study underway at the Iris Cantor Center for Breast Imaging at the University of California, Los Angeles, to compare the content and image quality of analog and digital images taken at the same level of radiation exposure, according to Siemens.

Siemens will also demonstrate MammoReport, a work-in-progress mammography physician workstation that will be available with both Novation and Mammomat 3000 Nova. As for CAD, the company is developing an open architecture for its systems so customers can make their own choice about which CAD solution to implement.

The firm is working closely with R2 Technology, however. Siemens will be participating in a display at R2’s booth at the show, and R2’s products will be made available for Siemens systems, Siemens said.
