MaxxVision

Upstart MaxxVision of Gainesville, FL, offers an option for those that can’t afford FFDM but want digitally enhanced film images: a palm-sized, digital wand that can be used with film-screen images mounted on a light box.

When iView is held against a specific area of interest on a mammography film, it digitally enhances images in real-time, adjusting contrast automatically and updating data as the wand is moved to other regions of the film. The device’s resolution is 1024 x 768 pixels, with a frame rate of 15 per second. iView does not currently have print or digital storage options.

iView was cleared by the FDA in July and became available this month; MaxxVision plans to sell iView for approximately $34,500. The company expects iView to offer users a return on their investment in less than six months, based on average clinic volume.
