MRS shows cost-benefit strength for brain tumor diagnosis

In January 2004, the U.S. Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services decided to continue the current noncoverage determination for proton magnetic resonance spectroscopy (MRS), stating there is inadequate evidence to conclude that MRS is necessary for diagnosing brain tumors. A research team from California, however, has presented compelling evidence that MRS use for brain tumor diagnosis is safe, accurate, and cost-effective.
