Real-time 3DTTE comparable to MRI in LV evaluation
By
Erik L. Ridley
Real-time 3D transthoracic echocardiography (RT-3DTTE) yields comparable accuracy to cardiac MRI in assessing left ventricular (LV) volume, mass, and ejection fraction (EF), according to an article published in the February issue of
Echocardiography

Radiation dose slashed in 64-slice coronary CTA
By
Eric Barnes
In an important new study from Virginia, radiologists compared standard retrospectively gated coronary CT angiography (CCTA) to a new prospectively gated technique, and achieved dose reductions of up to 83% with the new method -- all without loss of image quality or diagnostic utility.

Radial sampling in coronary MR shows vulnerable nonstenosed vessels
By
Eric Barnes
Coronary vessel wall imaging is a promising way to depict outward blood vessel modeling when luminal stenosis is absent, potentially improving doctors' ability to evaluate blood vessels with an elevated risk of plaque rupture. A new study from Germany shows that radial
k
-space sampling is better than Cartesian sampling for examining such vessels in 3D turbo field-echo MRI sequences.

64-slice CT takes on dual-source in cardiac radiation dose
By
Eric Barnes
Does dual-source CT imaging produce half the dose or twice the dose of single-source 64-slice CT -- or something in between? Researchers from the Cleveland Clinic Foundation imaged more than 500 patients on one scanner or the other to find out how the effective dose stacked up in the imaging of several cardiac indications.
