Study correlates CTA to angiography, myocardial perfusion SPECT
By
Eric Barnes
An ambitious effort to compare the results of coronary CT angiography (CTA), catheter angiography, and myocardial perfusion SPECT imaging yielded good overall agreement in patients with known or suspected heart disease. The researchers, from the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, believe CT could potentially replace the other modalities in patients with known or suspected coronary artery disease.

Dual-source coronary CTA detects reduction in lumen diameter
By
Paula Moyer
Even in patients with high heart rates, dual-source coronary CT angiography (CTA) provides accurate detection of significant lesions, according to a preliminary study by Dutch investigators. One reason for dual-source CTA's success is technical advancements in the equipment, said the group from Erasmus Medical Center in Rotterdam, Netherlands.

Two-segment CTA reconstruction aids images, not accuracy
By
Eric Barnes
For patients with faster heart rates, the use of two-segment reconstruction improves image quality at 64-slice coronary CT angiography (CTA), according to a study from Germany. Among all patients, however, accuracy was not improved using two-segment when compared to single-segment reconstruction.

CT finds high-risk plaque with nanoparticle contrast
By
Eric Barnes
A new animal study by researchers in the U.S. and France brings intriguing new possibilities to CT with its use of a nanoparticulate contrast agent administered before scanning to detect unstable atherosclerotic plaques. The group aims to someday detect human plaques at the greatest risk of rupture while there is time to prevent it.
