Dual-source coronary CTA largely unaffected by heart rate

As multidetector CT scanners have added detector rows over the years, faster and faster heart rates have been required to cause motion artifacts significant enough to reduce the diagnostic accuracy of coronary CT angiography (CTA). Researchers in Europe recently studied how dual-source CT performs with high heart rates, and found that diagnostic image quality is sufficient for a wide range of heart rates and heart rate variability.

Experts disagree about which measures of obesity most accurately predict the risk of atherosclerosis. Is the body mass index (BMI) able to predict atherosclerotic disease? Not very well, according to a new study. Using electron beam CT and cardiac MRI, researchers from Dallas found that only the waist-to-hip size ratio was independently associated with atherosclerosis.
