Florida RT gets 30 years for tampering with syringes

Former radiologic technologist (RT) Steven Beumel has been sentenced to 30 years in federal prison for one count of tampering with a consumer product resulting in death, four counts of tampering with a consumer product resulting in serious bodily injury, and five counts of stealing fentanyl by deception, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Middle District of Florida.

Juweid's termination came after a report that detailed what investigators called a pattern of disruptive behavior at the university.

A patchwork of regulation
The Kwiatkowski case highlights the patchwork of regulation governing allied health professionals, as well as the challenges faced by existing credentialing organizations in investigating personnel incidents that hospitals might prefer to keep under wraps. There are multiple channels for obtaining and maintaining a technologist's license, and there is no national database or clearinghouse for all allied healthcare workers that can quickly disseminate news of a disciplinary action to all the states, associations, and employers that might need to know about it.
