The Food and Drug Administration's Center for Devices and Radiological Health (CDRH) will hold a public meeting on November 6, 2000 in Gaithersburg, MD, U.S. The Radiological Devices Panel of the Medical Devices Advisory Committee will discuss, make recommendations, and vote on a premarket approval application for an embolic radiation therapy device.

Bill mandating technologist standards introduced in House

A bill requiring states to set up licensing procedures for radiologic technologists was introduced September 25 in the U.S. House of Representatives. The CARE Act will require minimum educational and credentialing standards, both for radiation therapists, and for personnel who perform medical imaging exams.

The FDA's Center for Devices and Radiological Health (CDRH) has announced the launch of an organizational transformation in the form of a reeingineering mission designed to refocus the organization on its most important goal of protecting the public against radiation exposure. CDRH intends to work with the medical imaging community including vendors, physicians and radiology organizations to tap their expertise and develop a comprehensive plan.
