Like George Carlin’s comedy routine on the seven words you can’t say on television, there ought to be a ban on seven words often used in conjunction with PACS.

Stereotactic breast biopsy proves accurate for benign breast lesions

CHICAGO - After following up 1,200 cases, German researchers from the University of Halle in Engledorf found stereotactic vacuum breast biopsies were able to spare patients from diagnostic surgery. Dr. Kerstin Rotter presented the results of her group’s study at the RSNA meeting on Tuesday.

South African firm Lodox Systems will demonstrate its Lodox unit, a charge-coupled device (CCD) system that the company is targeting at trauma and emergency room applications.

Mirada Solutions joins CAD software fray

At this week’s RSNA meeting, Mirada Solutions of Oxford, U.K., is debuting a new computer-aided diagnosis (CAD) workstation that it believes takes CAD to a new level. The workstation is based on the company’s proprietary standard mammogram form (SMF) software, which Mirada believes can do a better job at differentiating between malignant and benign tissue than current systems on the market.
