Fujifilm launches balloon-less endobronchial ultrasound bronchoscope

Fujifilm Healthcare Americas has launched its EB-710US Ultrasound Bronchoscope, a balloon-less endobronchial ultrasound (EBUS) scope for pulmonary procedures.

The balloon-less design eliminates the need to manually attach or inflate a balloon tip, reducing infection risks associated with residual contamination and biofilm formation while removing the cost of disposable balloons, according to the company. The scope features a high-density ultrasound transducer designed to deliver enhanced resolution and deep tissue penetration, the firm said.

Design features aimed at improving maneuverability and access include the following:

  • 180° upward and 90° downward angulation
  • 6.4-mm distal end and 5.9 mm insertion tube
  • Shortened transducer to improve mucosal contact
  • Unobstructed needle visualization to support accurate puncture alignment
  • 120° field of view

The company plans to highlight EB-710US at the American Thoracic Society Conference in Orlando, FL.
