Hologic achieves record revenues in fiscal 2006

Recent acquisitions contributed to revenue growth for women's imaging vendor Hologic in the Bedford, MA, company's fiscal fourth quarter and end-of-the-fiscal-year results (end-September 30).

For the fiscal year, revenues increased 61% to $462.7 million, compared with $287.7 million in fiscal 2005. Net income reached $27.4 million, compared with net income of $28.2 million in the company's last fiscal year.

Fourth-quarter fiscal 2006 revenues totaled $154 million, almost double revenues of $78.2 million in the fourth quarter of fiscal 2005. Hologic posted a net loss of $1.5 million, compared with net income of $9.5 million in the same quarter a year ago.

Hologic said its fourth-quarter net loss was due primarily to in-process research and development and other acquisition-related charges incurred in the quarter. Hologic acquired AEG Elektrofotografie in May and both R2 Technology and Suros Surgical Systems in July.

Hologic also recognized installation of 193 Selenia full-field digital mammography systems, and reported a record backlog of $194.7 million.
