Sectra, Philips complete mammo sale

PACS and digital mammography developer Sectra has completed the sale of its mammography business to Royal Philips Electronics, parent company of Philips Healthcare.

Philips will pay 57.5 million euros ($82 million U.S.) for the business and will take over operations on September 1, according to Sectra. The deal will allow Sectra to focus on developing its medical imaging IT business, as well as its portfolios in orthopedics, osteoporosis assessment, and rheumatology.

The divested operation represented 14% of Sectra's net sales for fiscal year 2010 to 2011, and it has approximately 110 employees. The transaction includes Sectra's mammography modality operations worldwide, except for Australia and New Zealand, where Sectra will continue to sell and service MicroDose full-field mammography units under a separate distribution agreement with Philips.
