Siemens launches new Artis x-ray line

Siemens Medical Solutions of Malvern, PA, has added a new family of products, called Artis zee, to its Artis line of interventional x-ray systems.

Artis zee systems use advanced robotic technologies to allow system positioning not possible with conventional C-arms, as the rotation center of the positioner can be placed anywhere in a sphere around the patient. The Artis zee line also features an enhanced imaging chain that improves image quality for interventional procedures, resulting in better 2D image clarity and enabling new 3D imaging applications.

The first product in the Artis zee family is Artis zeego, a multiaxis C-arm. Artis zeego's isocenter position can be adjusted according to the procedural needs or the height of the physician, which can be beneficial during lengthy procedures while wearing a heavy lead-shielded apron, according to the company.

The adjustable isocenter also enables off-center rotational angiography for multiple body areas, and supports advanced 3D imaging techniques, including cross-sectional imaging with the company's DynaCT technique.

New and enhanced 3D imaging applications for Artis zee systems include syngo iPilot, which offers improved catheter navigation through 3D roadmapping that superimposes 3D reconstructions onto live 2D fluoroscopy images, 2D roadmaps, or digital subtraction angiography (DSA). Another application is syngo iGuide, which is designed to bring needle procedures back into the interventional suite, enhancing physician comfort and freeing up the CT scanner from needle-guided procedures.

Artis zeego will be shown as a work-in-progress at the RSNA show, as the system has not yet received 510(k) clearance. Investigational units have been installed at St. Luke's Episcopal Hospital in Houston and the University of Virginia Health System in Charlottesville.
