Philips, Volcano team up

Philips Medical Systems and intravascular ultrasound (IVUS) developer Volcano of Rancho Cordova, CA, have formed a relationship, adding compatibility between Philips' Allura Xper FD systems and Volcano's s5i suite of integrated IVUS systems.

As a result, clinicians can connect the Volcano IVUS system with Allura Xper FD when additional imaging is required to complement cardiovascular x-ray during catheterization procedures, according to Philips of Andover, MA. In addition, Volcano is now a nonexclusive vendor of choice for new cath lab installations that specify integrated IVUS capabilities, Philips said.

The collaboration also opens the door for regional co-marketing agreements in important IVUS markets such as Japan, Philips said.

In other Philips news, the company is introducing several new products at this week's American College of Cardiology (ACC) annual meeting in New Orleans. Xper Information Management is a new cath lab workflow package for reporting, scheduling, inventory, and data management.

Philips is also showcasing its Ambient Experience Cath Lab package, which is designed to provide a comforting atmosphere for patients and staff during interventional procedures.
