Del Medical posts Q3 uptick

Del Medical Systems Group reported fiscal 2006 third-quarter (end-April 29) net sales of $17.6 million, a 15% increase compared with the $15.3 million reported for the same quarter last year.

Del said that the period's higher sales reflected increased international exports of medical and dental equipment as compared with the third quarter last year. For the quarter, the Valhalla, NY-based division of Del Global Technologies had operating income of $530,000, an improvement over the $390,000 shown for the same period last year.

The company said that strong international sales helped offset a decline in U.S. sales caused by the consolidation of two of its major distributors in the country. The company said it is adjusting to the consolidation by focusing on national buying contracts in the U.S. and through increased international marketing efforts.

When Del's power conversion business was included in the company's third-quarter results, Del Global reported sales of $20.8 million, up 10% compared with $18.9 million in sales in the corresponding quarter the year before. The company posted a net loss of $73,000 for the quarter, versus a net loss of $1 million in the same period last year.
