DALSA to enter digital mammography market

Canadian digital imaging developer DALSA of Waterloo, Ontario, is entering the digital mammography market with a new imaging system designed to guide breast biopsy studies. The system can replace x-ray film cassettes in existing systems, or be incorporated into new mammography systems sold by OEMs, according to the company.

Food and Drug Administration clearance is pending for the product, which should be in full production by the fourth quarter of 2000. DALSA said the system was developed by its Tucson, AZ, facility, which the company acquired earlier this year as part of its acquisition of MedOptics. The Tucson facility has other digital imaging products in the development pipeline as well, DALSA said.
