Mirabel raises $9 million

Electrical impedance scanning (EIS) developer Mirabel Medical Systems (formerly known as TransScan) has closed a $9 million second round of funding. The Austin, TX-based firm said the investment will allow it to continue efforts to bring its T-Scan 2000 ED device to market over the next year.

The technology is designed to serve as an adjunct to a clinical breast exam in women ages 30 to 40 who typically have denser breast tissue. The device measures low-level electric signals as they pass through breast tissue, and identifies signal-flow patterns that are consistent with an increased risk for breast cancer, the company said.
