The U.S. Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) has backed down on a controversial proposal that would have implemented stringent new requirements for independent diagnostic testing facilities (IDTFs).
In a brief message on its Web site, the agency said it had rescinded its change request 5449 to the Program Integrity Manual for IDTFs, first issued on January 26 this year.
The far-reaching changes were scheduled to go into effect on February 26, and would have placed new restrictions on the opening of new IDTFs. It also proposed to set new compliance standards for existing IDTFs.
The CMS said that the proposed rule changes would not be replaced at this time.
