Siemens donates DR in children's benefit

Siemens Healthcare of Malvern, PA, has donated a digital radiography (DR) system to a New York hospital to benefit the Children's Health Fund.

John T. Mather Memorial Hospital in Port Jefferson was the winning online bidder for the company's Ysio digital radiography system; the hospital presented a check for $285,309 to the fund, a national organization founded in 1987 by singer/songwriter Paul Simon that provides healthcare to homeless and medically disadvantaged children. The list price for Ysio is $450,000.

Ysio's wireless detector (wi-D) handles like a cassette and can be removed from the table and placed directly underneath or next to the patient for exposures that are difficult to take using a fixed detector. It can handle a variety of patient profiles and includes a 660-lb weight capacity, Siemens said.
