Mindray posts Q1 revenue gain

Despite weaker-than-expected market trends in the U.S. and Europe, Chinese medical equipment manufacturer Mindray Medical International of Shenzhen achieved double-digit revenue growth in the first quarter of 2009 (end-March 31).

Revenue increased 53% to $134.2 million, compared with $87.4 million in the first quarter of 2008. Mindray's Medical Imaging Systems segment contributed revenue of $35.7 million in the first quarter, representing a gain of 33% from $26.9 million in the same quarter a year ago.

The company's net income rose slightly to $25.3 million in the first quarter, compared with $25.1 million in the same quarter last year.
