PerkinElmer expands production facility

PerkinElmer Optoelectronics is expanding its Santa Clara, CA, digital imaging fabrication facility.

The 80,000-sq-ft operation produces amorphous silicon digital x-ray detector panels for use in radiography, angiography, cardiovascular imaging, and radiation oncology.

The expansion is part of the company's two-year, $50 million capital initiative to meet customer demand through 2012. The additional capacity will begin to come online late this year.

As a result of its growth, PerkinElmer expects to add approximately 60 positions next year to its current staff of 200 manufacturing, engineering, and administrative personnel at the Santa Clara site.
