Report: Some rads see double-digit pay gains

A survey of physician compensation and productivity in 2006 shows that radiologists are among the most handsomely rewarded medical specialists.

While overall physician compensation has remained somewhat stable, specialties showing the largest percentage increases in compensation were neurosurgery (28%), pathology (26%), anesthesiology (19%), dermatology (19%), and radiology (17%).

Conversely, 15% of the survey participants plan to decrease the total cash compensation levels for some physicians in 2006, based primarily on physician productivity levels.

The report from healthcare compensation consultants Sullivan, Cotter and Associates of Chicago is based on base salary, total cash compensation, and productivity by physician level; pay practices; incentive compensation; physician benefits and perquisites; resident compensation; and hourly rates.
