Venetec’s StatLock recognized by CDC

The StatLock catheter securement device manufactured by Venetec International of San Diego has been recognized in a report issued by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Venetec said. The CDC reported in its August 9 Morbidity and Mortality Weekly that "sutureless securement devices can be advantageous over suture in preventing catheter-related bloodstream infections."

The CDC article "Guidelines for the Prevention of Intravascular Catheter-Related Infections," cites a study of catheter securement on 170 patients at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, comparing StatLock catheter securement devices with suture. StatLock replaces tape and suture for securing IV catheters and medical tubing.
