Hemangiopericytoma:
Clinical:
A rare vascular tumor which arises from capillary pericytes (Zimmermann cells)- these normally surround vascular endothelial cells. Most patients are in their 5th or 6th decade of life, are usually asymptomatic, and both sexes are affected equally. Treatment consists of wide resection and the prognosis is uncertain. Factors associated with a poor prognosis include size greater than 8 cm, pleural or bronchial invasion, angiolymphatic invasion, and more than 3 mitoses per 10 high power fields [1].The lesion appears as a sharply defined, central or peripheral solitary pulmonary nodule. Central necrosis may be evident on CT imaging. Calcification is rare.
