Aurora Technology
Aurora will unwrap Study Manager, which provides real-time study reading status information to all diagnostic workstations in the enterprise. The Study Manager allows institutions to prevent duplicate reads, according to the Lake Bluff, IL-based firm.
Aurora is debuting its PACS PACK line with an eye towards medical centers, community hospitals, and specialty clinics. The starter packages include diagnostic and clinical viewing, image distribution, archiving, and remote viewing.
Aurora is also introducing version 6.0 of its E-Series diagnostic software. The new release includes IBM's DB2 database engine, new advanced image enhancement features, and Aurora's Scrapbook (key image) features.
BarcoView
Display manufacturer BarcoView is launching ImageTile Digital Light Box, a wall-mounted flat-panel display for soft-copy viewing. ImageTile is available in a dual-head (3072 x 2048 pixels) or quad-head (6144 x 2048 pixels) configuration.
Introduced in September, Barco's Coronis diagnostic flat-panel display system will also be highlighted in the firm's booth. Coronis, a 20.8-inch gray-scale display, has a resolution of 2048 x 1536 and a contrast ratio of 600:1, according to the Kortrijk, Belgium-based company.
Joining BarcoView's flat-panel family is MVD 1218, a gray-scale flat-panel display that provides digital scan conversion for use with imaging modalities. MVD has a resolution of 1280 x 1024 and features analog composite signal input, according to the firm.
BarcoView has also incorporated bidirectional functionality into its MediCal Administrator soft-copy QA management system. As a result, administrators can access all medical display systems from their own or other workstations connected to the same network.
Brit Systems
The Dallas-based PACS provider will showcase a work-in-progress MiniRIS module for its PACS offering. Designed for small clinics and hospitals performing fewer than 20,000 exams per year, MiniRIS provides an integrated radiology scheduling and report package for the vendor's Roentgen Files PACS network.
MiniRIS also features patient and physician demographics, order entry, exam status and management tools, voice clips, report storage, and an HL7 and DICOM interface. The MiniRIS server runs on the same platform as Roentgen Files and uses the same database, according to Brit. The client application is written in Java, and will first be released running Windows 2000 and XP, according to the company. Beta testing is scheduled to begin in February, and the company expects general availability in May.
Cedara Software
Cedara will debut Cedara I-, a family of applications products for PACS, digital x-ray, CR, teleradiology, 3-D volume rendering, and HIS/RIS integration. Cedara I- PACS products include: View, Read and Report; Reach software; and Softstore and Hardstore archives.
Version 5.0 of the firm's Cedara I- View, Read and Report workstations includes new features such as 3-D volume rendering, orthopedic measurements and templates, improved viewing protocols, and support for Windows 2000 and mixed-size monitors. Cedara's I- Reach 1.1 Web-based image distribution server features the company's Direct DICOM streaming technology and security measures such as authentication of users and activity logging. Image manipulation tools, JPEG compression, and 3-D postprocessing capabilities are also included.
The work-in-progress I- Bridge is a software-only interface between HL7 and DICOM systems, allowing modalities to access existing patient demographic data on the HIS/RIS system, according to Cedara. Features include configurable mappings, message manipulation, and support for non-HL7 interfaces. Bridge is slated for release in the first quarter of 2002.
I- Acquire is a universal acquisition console, providing for acquisition of digital x-ray, CR, and digitized film images. A work-in-progress, I- Acquire is targeted for a second-quarter release. Another introduction, I- View3D, is a 2-D and 3-D cross-sectional imaging software package for use across the enterprise, according to Cedara.
The Mississauga, Ontario-based company will also spotlight Open Eyes, a components-based medical imaging software platform for OEM clients. Open Eyes contains all major software functions and technologies such as DICOM, 2-D viewing, and 3-D viewing and processing to allow OEM software engineering teams to develop applications for both modalities and workstations or PCs, according to Cedara.
Cerner
The healthcare IT vendor's entry into the PACS market will be on display at the show. Cerner will introduce ProVision PACS, an integrated diagnostic workstation. ProVision PACS, which includes options for 3-D volume rendering and orthopedic tools, is scheduled for release in December.
Another debut, ProVision Web, provides enterprise image distribution using a Web client, JPEG 2000 compression, and progressive wavelet decompression, according to the Kansas City-based company. ProVision Web can integrate with the company's RadNet Web application and Millennium PowerChart electronic patient record software. Cerner expects to roll out ProVision Web in the first quarter.
Also scheduled for a first-quarter release, ProVision Worklist Manager will provide native DICOM modality worklist functionality to Cerner's RadNet Millennium package. ProVision Workflow Manager contributes additional DICOM services such as pre-fetch and auto-routing capabilities, according to the vendor. Cerner is targeting second-quarter availability for Workflow Manager.
ProVision Study Validation Server communicates between Cerner's RadNet RIS and PACS to ensure that image information is corrected automatically or manually before being committed to long-term storage, according to the company.
Clinton Electronics
The monitor manufacturer is highlighting improvements in image quality at this year's meeting. Clinton has raised the bandwidth on its 1K monitors from 180 MHz to 215 MHz, resulting in sharper edge details and more accurate tonal response, according to the firm. In other enhancements, Loves Park, IL-based Clinton has added on-screen user controls to its DS4000P 4-megapixel monitor.
Data-Ray
Precision 1M will take center stage in the Westminster, CO-based firm's booth. A digital 20.1-in. diagonal, 1-megapixel gray-scale LCD flat-panel display, Precision 1M supports over 1,554 visible gray shades, and provides luminance of 175 foot-Lamberts (600 cd/m2) and a high contrast ratio of 700:1, according to Data-Ray.
The display's automatic brightness stabilizing circuitry minimizes fluctuations in brightness caused by internal and environmental temperature, while 170º viewing allows for convenient access, according to the vendor. Data-Ray believes Precision 1M is ideally suited for fluoroscopic, CT, MR, cardiac, and other diagnostic images with up to 1280 x 1024 resolution. Precision 1M can also be used as a review station display for higher resolution images, according to the vendor.
