Dr. Roderic Pettigrew, Ph.D., has been named permanent director of the NIH's National Institute of Biomedical Imaging and Bioengineering (NIBIB). Pettigrew, who is the director of the Emory Center for MR Research at Emory University in Atlanta, will take up the NIBIB post by September 2002. Acting director Donna Dean, Ph.D., will assume the role of deputy director.
Pettigrew’s area of research involved dynamic 3-D cardiac MR. He helped develop the first computer software package specifically designed for cardiac imaging using MRI.
Pettigrew will oversee the institute's federally mandated budget for basic and applied research and training. The NIBIB was established in December 2000.
