SUNY Upstate Cancer Center in Syracuse, New York, has installed ViewRay's MRIdian MRI-guided radiation therapy system to treat patients with pancreas, prostate, lung, liver, breast, and oligometastatic cancers.

The MRIdian system provides anatomical visualization through diagnostic-quality MR images and the ability to adapt a radiation therapy plan to the targeted cancer with the patient on the table, ViewRay said. This combination allows physicians to define tight treatment margins to avoid unnecessary radiation exposure of vulnerable organs at risk and healthy tissue, according to the company.

To date, over 25,000 patients have been treated with MRIdian, with 54 systems installed at hospitals around the world, the company said.
