Omnyx nets digital pathology patent

Omnyx of Pittsburgh has received a U.S. patent for digital pathology technology.

The patent, No. 7576307, covers a system that uses two image sensors in a digital microscope: a primary sensor acquires images at a fast rate, while an auxiliary sensor surveys focus data at a faster rate, according to Omnyx. The company said it will incorporate the technology into its whole slide scanners.

Omnyx is a joint venture of GE Healthcare of Chalfont St. Giles, U.K., and the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center.
